06.15.2006 - Coachella

In the last weekend of April I ventured off to Palm Springs to attend the Coachella Music and Arts Festival.  The festival is one of my all time favorite events to attend- this was my my third time there! Here's a bunch of photos and comments on some of the bands I saw as well as other highlights...

Monkeys in the jungle!

The Walkmen
I made it to the festival the first day just in time to see the Walkmen play. They were wearing suits! It was a hundred gazillion degrees and these guys were wearing suits!!!

The Zutons
The Zutons were pretty rockin'! It was a nice way to start the festival off...

Imogen Heap
Despite a load of technical difficulties, Imogen Heap's voice was absolutely stunningly beautiful.  You could tell she was very happy to be there!

Ladytron
During the beginning of almost every set at Coachella you would see a flood of people lifting up their cameras and taking pictures.  The members of Ladytron made their stage entrance by coming out and wielding their own digital cameras...  They flashed their bulbs with a fury at the audience... I thought that was pretty brilliant on their part!

Eagles of Death Metal
These guys were great!  I dig their album and I thought they were even cooler live!  Their lead singer looked like he had stepped out of a really bad 70's gay porn cop fantasy flick!

Depeche Mode
I had seen Depeche Mode numerous times in the late 80s and early 90s, but it was cool to see Depeche Mode after not having seen them for so many years... They actually exceeded my expectations so it was a nice surprise!

Daft Punk
Daft Punk was by far my favorite performance of the festival. They ROCKED!  Between their robot outfits, the massive amount of people bouncing like rubber balls, and their alien spaceship pyramid- I've never seen anything quite like it... They MADE CONTACT with outer space that night!

If only there had been real snow in this tent...

The Infadels
I dragged my ass out of bed a lot earlier than I really wanted to just so I could get to the festival to see these guys play... They were AMAZING! From their black and hot pink equipment to their insane energy on stage- these guys put on a GREAT show!

Trying to stay cool in the scorching heat...

Matisyahu
Jewish rapping reggae stars?!?! Has the world gone mad??? Matisyahu was nice background noise while I was in the beer garden getting pleasantly shlockered on really expensive margaritas!

Robots Attack!
This robot was chasing and harassing some poor girl... All hail the robots!

Madonna
You haven't lived until you've stood in a trash can trying to see a glimpse of her Madgesty!  I still couldn't really see her all that well, but this is what it looked like facing the other direction!  It's a good thing I had a ticket for her upcoming LA Forum show...

The GO! Team
I LOVED the GO! Team... They were so energetic and fun live! Their music on CD sounded like it was mostly comprised of samples, so it was awesome to see a full live band there! It was also nice to see the Ginger Bears there!

Scissor Sisters
They looked great! They were cracking all kinds of funny jokes about Madonna taking off so quickly in her helicopter... I closed the festival out with the Scissor Sisters and it was the perfect ending to a really great weekend!
